The meters are manufactured by PHC (formerly Panasonic HealthCare) in Japan according to ridiculous quality standards. The accuracy on both is nearly identical. I know and trust the science, scientists, and engineering behind the product and know there were no corners cut in designing it. My insurance does not cover the meter or the sensors. I immediately got myself a Contour Next One meter and downloaded the app. Over the last 5 years, though, Ascensia has listened to feedback, improved it, and stabilized it. ![]() ![]() The launch of the Contour Diabetes App was, um, rocky to put it kindly. The Contour Next One was engineered from the start to be the new flagship Bayer (now Ascensia) meter to maximize the benefits of the improved sensor accuracy and to also introduce wireless connectivity with the Contour Diabetes App and the Contour Cloud. What it lacks is any ability to communicate wirelessly.Įnter the Contour Next and Contour Next One meters. So, the Contour Next EZ looks identical to older Bayer meters, but has different hardware and software guts. In the meantime, Bayer dramatically improved its accuracy algorithm and released the Contour Next sensors along with the improved software algorithm and associated hardware updates. The Contour Next EZ is built on the form factor and architecture of the Bayer Contour meters from 2006 - 2013. Bayer later split off its diabetes business, where it was scooped up by Panasonic HealthCare Holdings and re-launched as Ascensia Diabetes Care. I worked for Bayer when both meters were being developed. Tl dr Meters are equally accurate, the Next One is a great choice for Bluetooth app connectivity (which the Next EZ can't do). ![]()
